I've recently branched out into making bass guitars. In fact the first one I made, this one, was for myself. Having started out playing bass in the sixties and after years of playing six string I was suddenly asked if I'd like to join a band as the bass player. My response was "sure, just give me a couple of weeks to make a guitar". This is it.

I don't know why I didn't get into making basses sooner but it seems that forty years of experience in playing them has resulted in a bass that is really easy to play, well balanced and doesn't look too shabby either. Some people are of the view that the all maple construction is likely to make it a bit toppy but I've found that it produces a really solid driving bass sound. If you want it woolly just tweak the EQ.

The body is solid maple with a maple/ebony neck and a 34" scale length. I've given the neck/body interface a 130mm overlap and used the same six screw fixing system as that used on the six and seven strings but with wider spacing. The pick guards are carbon fibre effect ABS and the bridge and machines are from WD.
